Falling for my Favorite Time of the Year

I am officially in love with Fall. I look forward to it all year long and I ache when the last leaf drops. The cool nights, the layered sweater days, the hot cocoa and chicken pot pies... The nesting begins. We have already eaten two pumpkin pies and I am sure there are plenty more on the way. Yum! I am in Tennesee this week visiting my sister Becky and wish I could make time stand still... or find a way to make our worlds closer. I feel blessed that we hold each other's hearts and that is what matters most.  I have 5 daughters. She has 3 sons. She is my country mouse sister and I am the city mouse that longs for the country and my sister. Two worlds, one heart.

Starbucks On My Mind : Cranberry Bliss Bars

Ever since our late night hot chocolate blind taste test (see facebook post), I haven't been able to get Starbucks off my mind. What do I love about Starbucks this time of year? Their Cranberry Bliss Bars! These bars are so amazing that I am actually quite happy they don't sell them all yearlong...I would spend way too much money eating them! Warning: as with everything at Starbucks, these bars are expensive. But, they are so delicious! There must be a way to make these at home, right?

Viola! I found this knock-off of my favorite holiday bars on the black peppercorn. It looks promising, so I am adding it to my collection of holiday recipes. Plus, it makes a huge amount. So worth the effort. Don't believe me? Take a minute this week and stop by Starbucks and by just one...if you can. :)

Count Your Many Blessings : Pebbles Pockets

In my house, taking time to count ones blessings has become a November tradition. We usually count them with popcorn seeds. Each evening after dinner, everyone takes a turn naming a blessing from that day, then drops a seed into a jar. One seed per blessing, but there is no limit on the number of blessing that can be named. It's good for the soul to watch the jar fill up as the days go by. Charles Dickens once wrote:

Reflect upon your present blessings--of which every man has many--not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.

Now you know the background of my Thankful Pockets creations. All of them are just $1.99. They are perfect for place settings or as quick gifts (a gift card or note can easily be slipped into the pocket). A due date slip is included as a place to write a note.

Thanksgiving Tarts : I Am In Love

Lately, I have been gathering recipes on Pinterest, in anticipation of my holiday baking. This one caught my eye, and I just had to share! Flower Shaped Mini Lemon Curd Tarts from The 350 Degree Oven (a fun blog and well worth the time browsing...when you have an hour or two :)).

So easy! Simply cut pie or tart dough into flower shapes, bake in mini cupcake pan, and fill with your favorite filling. You can use pre-packaged pie crust or homemade. I am wondering if a sugar cookie dough might work just as well? Any pie filling could be used. Mika suggests alternatives, like a chocolate ganache or cheesecake cream. I am in love with how she dusted the flower petals. Perfection!

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you had a fantastic weekend! I was able to winterize the garden and play with the family, so I am feeling energized and ready to go. Have any of you bought your Halloween pumpkins yet? I'm kicking the week off with my brand new Acorn Banner. 

This banner's design is simple, crafty and a completely new style for me. I especially love the gold-glittered edging along the acorn caps coupled with the natural twine. These help create its' charming, playful feel...don't you think? Once hung, this banner could easily be left up for the whole fall season.

Our newest fall wood craft is a definite crowd pleaser. Don't you just love this guys little face?

I am in love with the four coordinating paper patterns used in this kit! Beautifully designed, the colors are neutral enough to match any color scheme, yet festive enough for fall. Also, it is only an easy 60 minute project (we like to keep things easy around here)!

Thanksgiving Friends

It may not even be Halloween yet, but inside the shop and late into the night we are busy creating for Thanksgiving. So far we've made a utensil pocket, banners, and a beautiful Thanksgiving sampler.  We also have several fall wood crafts available. Todays post is about another one of my favorite fall wood creations. These Thanksgiving Friends are or so cute, don't you think?

The wood and supplies to make these guys are now available and you have three purchase options. You can either buy the unfinished wood kit or the unfinished wood kit and supplies (for crafters like me who to make it themselves). Or, let us do the work for you and buy it pre-made (a nice option if you are short on time). I anticipate a more Thanksgiving/Fall creations to come your way in the weeks to come, so look for them. New Dictionary Print Banners

It has been fun putting together new custom banners for this holiday season. I wanted to make a few that were more simple in design, shape and color. Here are two of my latest creations.

What I love about this banner is its' country charm. Can't you see this hung over a Thanksgiving table or along a hearth?  The pennants are hand-stamped and made with dictionary paper.

This banner's design makes it perfect as a background decoration for any harvest themed party. Its' pennants are made from dictionary paper as well, yet are more narrow. Simple and charming, don't you think?

Fall Samplers

Happy October 1st everyone!  Are your Halloween decorations up yet?  I can't wait to see all my little grandkids running around, dressed up in their costumes.  To celebrate the season, I've just released two special Fall Samplers; one for Halloween and one for Thanksgiving.

I like to mount mine inside a frame, which has been spray-painted with a coordinating color. I usually pick my frames up from a local thrift store. The smaller cards look great when hung from our Basic Dictionary Print Memory Banner...a perfect way to display your family photos throughout the holidays.
